Getting to Alaska
A Few Options

If you're planning a trip to Alaska for an RV adventure, it doesn't mean that you have to pick up the RV in your hometown and drive to this great state to start the trip. Although this is certainly an option, there are plenty of ways in which you can travel to Alaska and pick up an RV or Motorhome in one of the state's major cities. Consider your options carefully, as there are pros and cons to each:

  • RVing the Entire Way: You may want to go with the first option that comes to mind - renting an RV from a local lot and driving all the way to Alaska. The advantage here is, of course, that you can see the RV in person first. You can also start your vacation immediately. Remember, though, that if your main destination is Alaska, you'll use a ton of fuel and resources just getting there, and you'll have to travel through Canada, where there will be certain restrictions and possible currency problems if you need to buy fuel or supplies. The same is true of driving to Alaska, so keep this in mind if you're considering the "by highway" option.
  • Flying into a Major City: Many families opting to travel through Alaska fly into a larger city like Anchorage. While this is the convenient method, it will also leave you with a slightly larger bill to pay at the end of your vacation. Flying with a large family simply isn't economical. If you do choose to fly, however, the advantage is that you can get to Alaska rather quickly instead of spending half of your vacation traveling to and from this state.

It could be that you won't want to leave once you're there. If that ends up being the case use our Alaska tourism job board to find current work opportunities. Become a tour guide or campground host!
